Offsite data backup
Wednesday, November 12th, 2008In information technology backup refers to making copies of data so if any data is lost from a given system it can be retrieved. Data backup can help in numerous conditions for example accidental deletion, corruption or even power surges. Storage of this data is very important below I will be list a few of these types.
Magnetic tape
this is the most commonly used media type for bulk data storage. The tape has a better capacity/ price ratio than the standard hard disk and is well suited for small medium sized organisation. Over the years the hard disk has caught up to the magnetic tape. Even though magnetic tape takes along time to access that data, reading writing is considered quick or even more so than hard disks.
Hard Disk
The capacity/ price ratio of the hard disk has improved over the years. The hard disk is making back up storage very competitive between the HD and magnetic tape. The advantages of the hard disk are basically access times, ease of use and capacity. Hard Disks come in different interfaces, these include SCSI, USB, FireWire, eSATA or even Ethernet, ISCSI or Fire channel for offsite data backup.
Backing up of data is very important in any information technology environment. Make sure common practise is taken in providing the necessary techniques for your enterprise environment.
