Gaming! Future releases, LETS TALK!

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I’ve seen acouple of previews of some future gaming releases, I was quite happy to see call of duty World at War. Instead of the usual world war 2 theme the developers have decided to go down the Vietnam route. To be honest I still miss the world war 2 games, medal of honor started the craze off and to be honest I’ve still not played Medal Of Honor Airborne. This was totally because my pc couldn’t cut it! Ever since I’ve been trying to upgrade my P.C I’ve been knocked back and keep waiting for the big release of Core i7 a good move or not I dont know!

Any who, Hopefully I can get back to the gaming platform and play COD5 (PC) Operation Flash Point 2 YES OFP 2! Not to mention the original developers decided to create their very own version of the game because they were axed from the development! I usually find that games created by different developers are never the same! Take counter strike condition zero and then counter strike 6! big difference in any gamers eyes.

It looks like there will be some good games next year with the directx 10.1 platform, lets hope that the Intel processors give us high performance at a fairly good cost! I’l be back into gaming in no time!

Buying Computer Hardware in q4

Monday, September 1st, 2008

So when is it ever a good time to buy a P.C? Well in my opinion I don’t think there is ever a good time to buy! Technology is forever changing updated hardware is released every 6 months if not quarterly.

So when is it a good time to buy hardware? Do you wait for the latest technology and pay the high price to go with it? Or do you wait till the prices go down and then buy the not so latest technology? The other option is to buy 6 months / 12 month old parts when new technology is released, this way you get last years hardware at a fraction of the cost.
This sounds all well and good but do you want to get the old top of the range or the latest technology at main stream level? For example take the extreme series Intel processors these cost around £900 and £1000 for the top model. Now think of Intels new technology Nehalem, once this hits the market the extreme processors can probably be snapped up for around sub £500?

Expect products which are enthusiast level now can be snapped up for main stream prices!

Life Is greener with LG

Friday, August 29th, 2008

NTELLIGENT SENSOR TECHNOLOGY significantly reduces energy consumption within LG TV products according to independent testing results announced today.

TLG LCD TVs sensor technology dramatically reduce the of power consumed 70% less than their previous models. The technology works by analysing the amount of ambient light in a room and adjusting the TV’s settings accordingly in order to gain picture perfection. (Philips TV anyone?)

The marketing manager for digital display at LG explains that, “The intelligent sensor is one of the best results of our ongoing efforts to create eco-friendly products that offer the same or even better quality than conventional TV products.”

Crysis -Do We Need Full Detail?

Monday, August 18th, 2008

As we all know Crysis is the second version of the Crytek engine. The game was originally called Far Cry if I remember correctly which was back then a brilliant graphics engine for out door environments. I know Crysis (Crytek Engine 2) has been out a couple of months now but I think this game is a perfect way of benchmarking your system in terms of gaming performance.

Over these last few months I have read all about Crysis and how its engine needs a large amount of computation i.e an expensive computer. For example a crossfire/ SLI system running either of the latest graphics offerings with an Intel core extreme processor could run Crysis in full detail around 40 FPS. Ok that sounds good but is it really worth it? For the highest settings!?

Dont be fooled, I then had the impression that the game is basically unplayable on dual core processors and systems with 8800 series Nvidia graphics but I found this was not the case. If your a mainstream gamer then high settings or the word Ultra High dont exists.  But! whats up with medium detail? If you enjoy games as much as me then  you will like the game play, graphics and physics but remember, treat the game as a benchmark! Think of it as an investment for your gaming future!

Benchmarking. Ok so We have a system running a AMD dual core processor 2g of ddr2 and a 8800GS Graphics Card, what will this system produce in terms of performance? Well Medium detail would suffice. The only issue is under intense game play or open areas of the island which usually mean struggling hardware. So we can easily  pin-point the issue and diagnose the P.C with a low clock speed processor please upgrade! Eventually this should evolve into a fast gaming p.c. able to run the likes of crysis in FULL/ MEGA HIGH detail not to mention future games which will probebly use the crytek 2 engine.

New 1TB Disc In Development

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Recently I posted that Pioneer have developed an optical disc that can store 400 GB worth of data but now scientists in the US have apparently created an 1 Terabyte optical disc which store’s all the discs data in 3D. The scientists announced that they have found a way to create hundreds of layers on a single optical disk, with each layer containing around 5GB of data.

The Californian scientist even claim they could create up to 5TB optical disks by using 405nm diodes to record a Blu-ray disc’s worth of data at around 25GB per layer.

There is no sign when this new technology will be available but hopefully its not to far away as i would love my whole DVD movie collection to be on 1 disk, with room to spare.

Gaming Pod - The future of Gaming?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

of cash oh and not to mention he likes peace and quiet and is a Hardcore Gamer! Want one? well I’m I’m not sure what to make of this, is it good? is it bad? is it somewhere in-between? anyways you decide! To start of with fair play to the guy who created this enclosure my guess is, he is MALE around 18 to 25 got abitafraid this bad boy is not for sale but feel free to check out these pictures bellow.

What a brilliant idea? but there is something missing in that equation! The fridge, a toilet and a microwave!

Friday Feeling?

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Its Friday again, w00t! But what is there to talk about on the computer hardware front? Well nothing really! I’m still contemplating buying a new p.c. soon considering the 9800 GTX are coming down in price so dramatically. So what does the enthusiast do? Does He/She decide to buy now and pay later or wait now and pay and buy later?

I’ve just recently read an article stating that the graphical performance may double to 4 teraflops where the 4870 ATI Radion x2 can compute 2 teraflops. These are not expected until the q2 of 2009, Larrabee and Nehalem mainstream hardware is not expected until Q1 of 2009 either, there seems to be a trend here! I dont want to burst anyone’s bubble but this emerging pattern doesn’t look good. Does 2009 look like a good year to upgrade? It sure looks like it!

SO… where does this leave the existing Phenom and socket 755 processors? Will these sockets come down in price during the end of this year? Considering the high end Nehalem are expected a price plunge is on the horizon.

With this said, my scheduled upgrade at Christmas is going to have to wait unless… Cheap Quad core Duo all around then? I hope so. Have a good weekend all!

Dreamworks to use Intel processors

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc has dumped AMD and turned to Intel for its processors. AMD have always bragged about their processors being used in hollywood. Intel has somehow worked behind the scenes and taken over the movie animation market.

One of the head guys at Dreamworks said “the upcoming animation Monsters vs Aliens requires a significant amount of processing. The result would be creating unique high polly count models.”

Funnily enough what are Intels next big products? hmm the Nehalem and the Larrabee of course. So I imagine Dreamworks are especially excited about these hardware components.
