Google Chrome Os

Shaking the computing world once more, the giant Google announced yesterday that it will step in the OS market with its own product Chrome OS.
Following the release of its internet browser last year, Google want to compete even further with Microsoft and Apple by creating an open source operating system.
Targeting the netbook sector first, Google intends to scale it up to use on laptop and desktop computer in the future.
“Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS,” said Google engineering director Sundar Pichai on the company’s official blog. “We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.”
Given the work they’ve done in building desktop like internet based applications I wouldn’t be surprised if the Google Os would work more as a cloud base system than a traditional Os. Add to that Gears and you’ve got everything you need pretty much.
In fact I am sure some good programmer out there could come up with an os like service using Google Chorme browser UI and add easy access to google apps.
All this sounds really interesting if a bit scary. Where is Google gonna stop?
