Intel Core i7 & x58 Motherboards on SLI

We all know the core i7 has been released but how does it compare within the graphics market? I remember way back when enthusiast started buying dual socket motherboards to find nothing near double the performance, now with core i7 with Intels threading implementation how will graphics perform under the pressure of three sli 280 Nvidia graphic cards? Will Core 2 quad still offer better performance? Well lets find out!
Well in COD4 we have 145 FPS with the core 2 extreme and the core i7 has 146.4 fps. the resolutions used were 1,920 x 1,200 4 x AA and 16 x AF. The same game but with an higher resolution of 2,560×1,600 4xAA and 16xAF, there was only 5 FPS between them!
Far cry 2 was a different story, the core i7 had at least 20 FPS+ more then the core 2 extreme with high settings and the same resolution as the first benchmark in cod4. What was disappointing was the second benchmark, the core i7 only performed better results by 10 FPS when running 2,560 by 1,600. You would think this would have the opposite effect when increasing the resolution.
The performance of the core i7 just is not justified. Old socket 775 processors with x48 chip sets are well suited to perform well with these games and when you see these benchmarks when new technology is introduced the future can only mean increased scores over the next few months, lets wait and see.
