Intel are planning to reduce their mainstream quad core processors upto nearly 40%, leaving extreme editions and higher FSB based processors prices static. Intel have stated that these cuts will be made on the 18th of this month.
Intel have strategically lowered their prices with relation to AMD’s Phenom II quad core processor release, not quite a bad idea! The Phenom II has been getting good reviews unlike its predecessor, making Intel re-think their plans.
Not only are AMD doing well in the desktop sector but enterprise also. AMD’s new server processors called the Shanghai or Opteron processor. These enterprise editions are being used by HP, Dell, SUN Micro systems and IBM.
Looks like Intel have made the right move.
